My kid won't eat nothin'!

So my kid won't eat anything.  Ok...I am exaggerating.  He will eat animal crackers, goldfish crackers, z bars, bananas, eggs and those squeezy baby food packets for a buck fifty a piece.  My inner frugal nazi does not care for this. So I set about to find a reusable alternative online.  I found these little gems over at nourishwithstyle.com.  $22 bucks later and 3 days later I was overjoyed to find them in my mailbox.  I ordered 10 reusable pouches in this groovy chevron pattern as well as 5 extra lids just in case the sock gremlin decides to venture out of the laundry room and wreak havoc in my kitchen.

These came much faster than I anticipated, so I hadn't gone to the store to prepare, also I have like 12 babies, so I don't wanna go to the store, so I made do with what I had.  5 small sweet potatoes, half a bag of frozen carrots, 2 apples and 2 bananas.  Yes, I know there is only one in the picture.  I decided at the last minute to add another because it was sketchy as to whether I had enough to fill the bags.

So I peeled and boiled the sweet potatoes until they were pretty tender. About 12 minutes.

Then I added the apples, peeled and sliced.  I let the pot boil 5 additional minutes.
Then I added the carrots and boiled them for 5 additional minutes.

Drain the water, yo. Sprinkle in some cinnamon if you are awesome like me.
Add 2 bananas.  And a little brown sugar if you love your kid.  And then blend the crap out of it.  I used an emulsion blender on account of the blender was in the dishwasher and like I'm gonna wash something by hand.
This is what the finished product should look like, depending on what you decide to put in your baby food.  Use what you got.  Mix it up.  Get baby food crazy.
Ok, this was less messy than I thought it was gonna be,  Just spoon it in. If you overfill it a bit, it will work itself out zipping step,
See what I mean..just zip it over the bowl, what ever doesn't fit will just ooze back into the bowl.
Rinse them off and throw em in the fridge.  Not the pantry. Remember these don;t have the yucky skunky preservatives and additives like the ones in the store.  Except the sugar and that was just a little so it doesn't count cuz I said so.
Here is the judge making the stink face because I pulled out the camera.
I know he doesn't look enthused, but he is eating it which means he likes it. If he didn't like it he would have thrown it at the dog. True story.

My 10 year old who claims she wasn't "dressed" for a picture has already eaten 3, so overall I call it a win.  Here is the frugal nazi breakdown...10 DISPOSABLE food pouches are roughly 15 bucks, at a buck fifty each.  I paid a little over $2 a piece for these REUSABLE ones.  The produce to make the baby food was maybe $2.50, so these will more than pay for themselves after 2 uses. I will update on how well they clean up and hold up.

Holla.
